ILOILO CITY — Some 647 newly-appointed police officers, who took oath on Monday at Camp Martin Delgado in Fort San Pedro here, were urged to become a “new breed” of officers.
“You must therefore, be discriminating in imbibing the values and character that will be taught to you. Anchor your choices to the standard that we set for ourselves as members of the PNP, that is, highly motivated, competent, values-oriented and disciplined,” said Chief Supt. John Bulalacao, Regional Director of Police Regional Office-6, during the oath-taking ceremonies.
The new police officers are composed of 491 males and 156 females who have passed the screening process.
“I want you to become the improvement of our organization in every aspect of an ideal police officer of this region. I humbly ask you to accept this new responsibility to the new face of the PNP,” Bulalacao said.
The statement of Bulalacao came after he noted that there were some law enforces who become “law breakers”, particularly involvement in illegal drugs, other forms of criminality, abuse of authority and breach of disciplinary protocols.
Due to these offenses, Bulalacao said the public may lose their respect and look down against police officers.
“We accept a bitter fact that some police members, instead of being good examples, are the same people who violate the laws. The negative image they showed has led to the PNP to intensify its internal cleansing program,” he said.
Bulalacao urged the new officers to be the “guardians” of peace and security in Western Visayas.
“In times of need and emergency, you will be the first to act or to be called upon the community,” he said.
He also reiterated his call to “join us in our crusade for a better police service” while “we perform as we transform.”
The new batch of police officers, whose monthly basic pay is more than PHP29,000, will undergo police training on Basic Internal Security Operation Course in Bacolod City before deployment in different stations for their field training, Bulalacao said. (PNA)
