CAMP DANGWA, Benguet — The newly-designated chief of the Police Regional Office in Cordillera (Procor) said on Monday he will focus on cleansing the ranks of the region’s police force.
Chief Superintendent Rolando Nana, who succeeded Chief Supt. Edward Carranza, said during the turn over ceremonies that among his priorities is internal cleansing, to make sure that policemen in the region will serve the people well.
Nana said the Philippine National Police (PNP) has designated an oversight committee to look out for hoodlums in uniform in all police regional offices in the country.
“Mahalin natin ang ating mga ‘chapa’. Dapat tama ang ating gagawin. Magsimula sa tamang bihis, tamang gupit, tamang pag-uugali, at higit sa lahat, tamang serbisyo sa lahat ng oras(Let us love our badges. We should always do what is right. This starts with how we wear our uniforms, our haircut, the right attitude, and most of all, proper service at all times),” Nana told the policemen.
He also called on them to have good camaraderie as a way to lift the image of the police.
He also told the police regional office’s personnel to keep a good rapport with other government offices, non-government groups, and all sectors of the community. This way, he said, peace and order is easier to attain.
He also ordered the entire police organization in the region to continue the fight against illegal drugs and crime.
“Until there are no more drug-affected barangays, until there are no more marijuana cultivators on our mountains, and criminals in our area of jurisdiction, we will not stop,” Nana stressed, adding that he also wants Procor’s intelligence operations strengthened.
The new Procor chief hails from Mapandan, Pangasinan but was raised and educated in Baguio City before entering the Philippine Military Academy, where he graduated in 1985.
His first assignment as an officer was in Abra and eventually became the police provincial director of Apayao from 2007 to 2009.
“I am thankful for being given the chance to be back to serve in the Cordillera. Probably, there is a reason I am brought back, while I did not anymore expect to be assigned to the region. I will give my best and all my energy to succeed and overcome the challenges to maintain peace and order in the region,” Nana said.
