The newly established evacuation centers in Batangas will be of great help to the victims of Taal Volcano eruptions, President Rodrigo Duterte said, as he inspected the Mataasnakahoy Evacuation Center on Monday (April 4).
In his speech, Duterte said the facility can accommodate 150 families or 600 individuals during the calamities.
“Bearing the lessons we have learned from the eruption in January 2020, I’ve directed to establish evacuation centers in the affected LGUs like Lipa City, Tanauan and municipalities of Malvar, Talisay, and Laurel,” he said.
“I commend the people who have worked hard to complete the center with a strong sense of urgency. This will not have been possible without your passion and dedication,” he added, noting that many structures and “long-term solutions” have been institutionalized.
The Mataasnakahoy Evacuation Center is among the evacuation facilities in Batangas located outside Taal’s danger zone which were turned over to their respective local government units last March 31.
“It is during these times that the bayanihan spirit burns even brighter in the hearts of Filipinos. It is when we become heroes for one another, demonstrating the highest form of compassion for our people,” he said.
“Now that I’m already at the tail end of my term as President, you’ll see how our shared values and vision towards progress and prosperity [bore] the fruition. With our stealth and solidarity we can overcome all forms of trials and problems that test our character,” he added. AG-/gb
