New modular hospital opened in Las Piῆas

The government opened on Monday (June 28) a 36-bed capacity modular hospital in Las Piῆas City for COVID-19 patients with moderate to severe symptoms.

This is to augment the healthcare system capacity of the National Capital Region (NCR) despite the declining utilization rate of hospitals in the region and amid the threat of emerging variants.

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar said the stations have their own oxygen supply and equipment for critical care.

The department also conducted a groundbreaking ceremony program for the establishment of a new 12-storey hospital in Las Piῆas.

Department of Health (DOH) data show that the utilization of hospital isolation beds in NCR is currently at 38%, ward beds at 33%, ventilators at 33%, and intensive care units (ICU) at 43%.

The government is set to open next month the 110-bed capacity modular hospital at the Lung Center of the Philippines (LCP) and a 44-bed capacity facility at the Southern Philippines Medical Center in Davao City. – Report from Karen Villanda/AG-rir
