BATANGAS CITY – Residents of the island-town of Tingloy in Batangas now have access to better primary health services and emergency care following the renovation and enhancement of its rural health unit (RHU) early this month.

“Access to public health services should be equitable. The establishment of the health facility will provide the timely appropriate healthcare services and residents need not worry of travelling anymore to the main island by boat just to get the treatment they need,” said Department of Health (DOH) Region 4A (Calabarzon) Director, Dr. Eduardo Janairo, in a statement.

He said rural communities should have access to primary healthcare services as their urban counterparts, especially now that the all-inclusive Universal Health Care (UHC) law is in place.

The new Tingloy RHU building in Barangay 14, Poblacion 2 in Tingloy now serves the close to 18,000 islanders as per 2015 census estimates. It was inaugurated early this month.

With the new health center, residents now have access to various health services such as primary care, dental, and emergency care.

By 2017, the DOH – Health Facility Improvement Program (HFEP) paved the way for the repair and improvement of the once dilapidated health center.
Janairo disclosed that since 2014 until 2016, a total of PHP1.5 million pesos worth of health equipment were given to the RHU.

“An additional of PHP900,000 was granted this year for the purchase of additional equipment needed at the RHU for treatment and management of patients,” he added.

He also assured that the DOH regional office would allocate more funds, including resources for more equipment needed to modernize and improve health care services on the island.
