GENERAL TRIAS CITY, Cavite – Some 13 members of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit have beefed up the General Trias Police Station’s capability and manpower in maintaining its peace and order and special operations.
In an interview with the Philippine News Agency on Tuesday, Supt. Paul Bometivo, General Trias police chief, said the 13 police members are new SWAT (Special Weapon And Tactics) graduates who would augment the city’s existing 152 uniformed and non-uniformed personnel.
“Malaking tulong po ito sa kapulisan lalong lalo na ng mga police operations namin. Maraming maraming salamat sa suporta sa GenTri LGU lalung lalo na po kay Mayor Ony and Cong. Jon Jon Ferrer (This is a big boost to our police force especially to our police operations. Thank so much for the support of the General Trias local government unit (LGU) especially to Mayor Ony (Antonio Ferrer) and Congressman Jon Jon (Luis Ferrer IV),” Bometivo said.
He said the new GenTri SWAT team, headed by Deputy Chief of Police Chief Inspector Robert Dimapilis, completed the specialized SWAT course, Class 2018 “Mabaskog,” at Camp Francisco Ferma in Barangay Kagbagal, Tagaytay City on Sept. 13.
Police Regional Office (PRO4A) Calabarzon Director Chief Supt. Edward Carranza, Cavite Police Provincial Director Senior Supt. William Segun, Bometivo and Mayor Ferrer graced the graduation rites.
Following their specialized training, the SWAT members reported Monday to the GenTri Police Headquarters and were acknowledged after the flag-raising ceremony at the City Plaza in Barangay Bagumbayan here.
According to Bometivo, the GenTri LGU funded the training program of the SWAT team members, putting the General Trias City police force on the list of Cavite local police stations with specialized cops, including Silang, Bacoor City, Imus City, Dasmariñas, Tagaytay City and the Cavite Police Provincial Office.
Bometivo explained that the SWAT is a special unit in the police force trained to deal with unusual dangerous situations that need special tactics, enhanced firepower especially during rescue operations in the event of hostage, terrorist attacks and armed encounters.
He added that SWAT trained cops provide protection, support, security, firepower, and rescue to police operations in high personal risk situations, where specialized tactics are necessary to minimize casualties. (Dennis Abrina/PNA)
