Newcomer Calizo collects 2nd medal in swimming

KUALA LUMPUR – Philippine para swimmer Claire Calizo on Tuesday collected her second medal, this time a silver, in the women’s 200-meter freestyle S14 in the pool competition of the 9th ASEAN Para Games here.

Calizo clocked two minutes and 44.81 seconds, but 14.92 seconds behind Daniele Moi of Singapore who captured the gold in 2:29.89, while her compatriot Chew Zew Ling took the bronze with a time of 2:53.

“Nagdasal lang kami ni Mama kagabi at muling pina-alala sa akin na (My mom and I prayed last night, and I was reminded to) – do your best and God will do the rest,” said the newcomer Calizo, a double gold medalist (50-meter backstroke and 50-meter freestyle) in this year’s Palarong Pambansa in Antique where she was discovered.

The 18-year-old Calizo of Aklan got the bronze in Monday’s 100-meter freestyle S14.

“Mag-gold po (Go for the gold),” Calizo confidently said when asked about her plans on Thursday where she will compete in the women’s 50-meter sprint. | PNA
