NFA kicks off weekly rice retail activity in Dumaguete

DUMAGUETE CITY – The National Food Authority (NFA) in Negros Oriental will kick off Wednesday its “Bigasan sa NFA Compound” program here to allow the public to avail of low-priced government rice in limited quantity.

“Kadaghanan man gud sa mupalit dire sa among bodega sinako man (most of those who buy from our warehouse usually purchase by the sack),” said Hilaria Ganzon, NFA provincial manager, on Tuesday afternoon.

The Bigasan sa NFA Compound will sell rice at a maximum of 10 kilograms per buyer, she noted.

The activity is aimed at helping the grains agency here to “widen the distribution of NFA rice,” Ganzon said.

Ganzon explained that every Wednesday, an accredited retailer will sell NFA rice at its regular price of PHP 32.00 per kilogram at their office compound, just like a rolling store, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Bigasan sa NFA Compound will be a regular activity every Wednesday for an indefinite period, according to Ganzon. “(D)epende pod sa availability sa supply (depending also on the availability of supply,” she added.

She reassured that there is ample supply of government rice in Negros Oriental and in fact, they are still awaiting another shipment to boost the current buffer stock.

An inventory will be made this week to determine how many sacks of NFA rice are currently available in the province, Ganzon said. (Mary Judaline Partlow/PNA)
