No. 1 most wanted NPA leader sa Mindanao, nutralisado

Namatay sa pakikipaglaban sa mga tropa ng 1001st Infantry Brigade ang Number 1 most wanted na leader ng Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) sa Mindanao.

Nangyari ang engkwentro kagabi (Enero 5) sa Brgy. Libudon, Mabini, Davao de Oro, kung saan patuloy na tinutugis ng mga tropa ang mga nalalabing NPA.

Kinilala ni 1001st Brigade Commander BGen. Jesus P. Durante III ang nasawing lider komunista na si Menandro Villanueva, alias “Bok,” ang pinakamahabang nagsilbing Secretary ng Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC).

Siya rin ang kasalukuyang Secretary ng Komisyong Mindanao (KOMMID), Commanding Officer ng NPA National Operations Command (NOC), at miyembro ng POLITBURO ng Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP).

Si Villanueva, na dating aktibista ng Kabataang Makabayan sa Ateneo de Manila noong kanyang kabataan, ang nagtatag ng NPA sa Mindanao kasama si Edgar Jopson noong dekada ’70.

Pinuri naman ni 10th Infantry Division Commander MGen. Ernesto C. Torres Jr., ang mga tropa ng 1001st Brigade sa matagumpay na pagwawakas ng limang dekadang paghahasik ng karahasan ni Villanueva. (Radyo Pilipinas) -rir
