MANILA — There were no flights affected by the two red lightning alerts issued at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said on Friday.
The MIAA issued a red lightning alert at 6:25 a.m., and lowered this to a yellow alert at 6:45 a.m. The lightning alert was lifted at 6:59 a.m.
The second red lightning alert was issued at 11:50 a.m., and normal operations resumed at 12:06 p.m. as authorities announced the yellow alert.
A red lightning alert is a safety measure to prevent any untoward incident from happening when lightning is prevalent in the immediate area and may endanger passengers, personnel, and flight operations.
During this period, the ramp movement for both aircraft and ramp personnel is temporarily suspended.
