No Holy Week off for jail staff nationwide

MANILA — The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) has canceled the day off and vacation of all jail personnel during the observance of Holy Week nationwide.

The Holy Week will start on Palm Sunday (March 25) and culminates on Easter Sunday (April 1) this year.

BJMP Spokesman Jail Senior Inspector Xavier Solda said that from March 25 to April 1, the BJMP will raise the “full alert status” in its 481 jail facilities in the entire country.

During the Holy Week, it is expected that the jail facilities will be deluged with visitors and relatives of inmates in order to be with them to offer prayers.

Although nothing was changed in the “visiting hours”, however, Solda said, minors will still not be admitted as a “visitor”.

He assured that while the country is observing the Christian tradition, the jail administrators would continue to monitor the jail facilities against any threats of “jailbreak” and other wrong-doings. (PNA)
