BAGUIO CITY — No violator of the election gun ban has so far been caught in the city, an official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said.

“The violations that have been reported are petty crimes and we hope there would be no violator of the gun ban so we could maintain order in the city,” Comelec-Baguio election officer, John Paul Martin, said on the sidelines of the Vote-Counting Machine roadshow on Monday.

“We have not received any report of gun ban provision violators,” he added.

Martin said police personnel have been given instructions to strictly implement the law and establish checkpoints.

“It is best that they know how strict our policemen are in establishing checkpoints and if there are violators, they will be meted the appropriate charge that has a corresponding penalty, which has accessory penalties,” he said.

Even before the start of the election period, Martin said they have launched an information campaign on the dos and don’ts during the election period.

“The gun ban is in effect. Nobody except those with permit from the Comelec can possess guns outside the residence. Any form of deadly weapons, including replicas, is also prohibited,” he said.
