NoCot police director orders probe on Carmen town killings

KIDAPAWAN CITY–The head of the North Cotabato Police on Friday ordered a probe on the rash of killings in Carmen town.

Senior Supt. Maximo Layugan, provincial police director, has directed Carmen town police chief, Chief Insp. Julius Malcontento, to dig deeper into the two shooting incidents that left a couple and a Moro rebel sub-leader dead  in the past two days.

At about 2 p.m. on Thursday, unidentified gunmen on board a motorbike shot dead businessman Motin Mamolindas, 31, and his wife Fatima, in Sitio Galay, Barangay Kibayao.

The couple was riding a motorbike from nearby Pagalungan town in Maguindanao province heading for home when they were gunned down by their assailants.

The following day on Friday, at about 10 a.m., riding-in-tandem gunmen also shot dead Haliludin Galay, a sub-leader of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), along Everlasting St., Barangay Poblacion in Carmen.

Police said Galay, also a resident of Sitio Galay, Barangay Kibayao, was driving his motorbike from the town public market and was heading for home when he was shot dead by .45-caliber pistol wielding assassins.

Supt. Bernard Tayong, provincial police spokesperson, said Layugan specifically wanted to know what triggered the shootings and whether or not the twin murders were related.

Tayong said initial investigation revealed that the incidents could have been triggered by “rido” or family feud involving Moro clans. (PNA)
