NoCot poll aspirant nabbed for firearm, shabu possession

COTABATO CITY — Police arrested Sunday a candidate running for village chairman for the May 14 village election in Barangay Tumbras, Midsayap, North Cotabato.

Supt. Gilbert Tuzon, Midsayap police chief, identified the suspect as Alcon Tubasa, 43, former number one village councilor of Tumbras.

Tuzon said joint police and Army’s 34th Infantry Battalion personnel manning a checkpoint stopped the motorcycle-riding Tubasa around 11 a.m. Sunday.

Seized from him were an unlicensed .45 caliber pistol and two packets of suspected shabu.

Charges for violation of Republic 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002, illegal possession of firearms, and the current Commission on Election gun ban are readied against the suspect. (PNA)
