Northeast monsoon to bring rains in N. Luzon

MANILA — Scattered rains will prevail over North Luzon due to the northeast monsoon until Saturday afternoon, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In the state weather bureau’s 24-hour bulletin, PAGASA said the Cordillera and Cagayan regions, including the province of Aurora, would have cloudy skies with scattered rains, while the Ilocos region and other parts of Central Luzon would have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains. Both are caused by the northeast monsoon or “hanging amihan”, which are cold winds blowing from Siberia, Russia.

Cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms will also occur in the Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, and the provinces of Quezon, Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon, brought by the tail-end of a cold front. PAGASA also cautioned of possible flooding or landslides due to light to moderate with occasional heavy rains in these areas.

CARAGA and the Davao region will also have cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms brought by a trough of a low-pressure area. The weather bureau similarly warned of possible floods or landslides caused by light to moderate with occasional heavy rains.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers will also occur in Metro Manila and the other parts of the country due to local thunderstorms.

Ilocos Norte and the eastern sections of Luzon and Visayas will also have rough to very rough coastal waters pushed by strong to gale force winds.

Moderate to rough coastal waters will also prevail in the eastern section of Mindanao, other parts of Luzon, and the Visayas, caused by moderate to strong winds.

The other areas in Mindanao will have slight to moderate coastal waters brought by light to moderate winds. (PNA)
