Number of ‘Ompong’-affected families now at 507K

MANILA — As the government intensifies its efforts to aid communities severely devastated by Typhoon Ompong last week, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) announced that families affected by the weather disturbance has now climbed to 507,945 in 4,819 barangays in Regions 1, 2, 3, 4A, 4B, National Capital Region (NCR) and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

Those affected are equivalent to 2,140,966 individuals, according to the 6 a.m. Monday update, signed by NDRRMC executive director Ricardo Jalad.

Also, a total of 117,685 houses were reported damaged, 10,334 severely and 107,351 partially, in Regions 1, 2, 3, and the CAR.

Damage to infrastructure and agriculture is placed at PHP18,827,161,241.02 and had been recorded in Regions 1, 2, 3, 4A, 5 and the CAR.

These can be broken down into PHP4,487,923,610 for infrastructure and PHP14,339,237,631.02 for agriculture.

In CAR alone, 171, 932 farmers were severely affected by the typhoon. (Priam Nepomuceno/PNA)
