Occidental Mindoro records first South African variant case

The provincial government of Occidental Mindoro has confirmed the reported first case of more contagious South African variant in the area.

Based on its advisory released Tuesday afternoon, the patient is a returning overseas Filipino from the Middle East who initially tested positive for COVID-19 upon arrival in the country.

The patient has already recovered and is currently under home quarantine following the release of the genome sequencing result and pending the conduct of a repeat RT-PCR test. Conduct tracing measures are now being implemented.

As of March 22, the province has 50 local active cases and 6 imported active cases. – AG, PTV News Online#
