OCTA: Metro Manila COVID-19 positivity rate spikes up to 9.2%; another wave likely

By Gabriela Baron

The Metro Manila COVID-19 positivity rate spiked up from 7.4 to 9.2, the OCTA Research Group reported Thursday, Nov. 24.

OCTA Research Group Fellow Dr. Guido David also noted that another wave of COVID-19 infections is possible.

“Unless these trends do not progress, we could be seeing the start of another wave of infections in the [National Capital Region],” David added.

However, David assured the public that there is no need to be alarmed yet as it is still “too early to tell” if there will be another wave of COVID-19 infections in the country.

“Hindi naman siya nakakaalarma pa at this level at hindi pa naman natin alam kung magtutuloy-tuloy ito na patuloy na tataas. Sa ngayon mino-monitor pa natin. Sa ngayon, wala pa naman tayo sa situation na maaalarma tayo, but we have to stay informed and stay up to date sa mga balita natin,” David said in the Laging Handa briefing.

“Sa mga ganitong situation, sa mga nakita natin nung nakaraan pag ganitong may pagtaas, madalas nagtutuloy-tuloy ito. Pero hindi naman guaranteed… It’s too early to tell right now,” he added.

David said that the previous wave of infections in the past months were driven by COVID-19 subvariants.

The Department of Health reported 8,004 additional COVID-19 infections from Nov. 14 to 20.

The number of cases averaged 1,143 in the past week, which was 12% lower than the number of infections logged from Nov. 7 to 13. -ag
