OCTA: COVID-19 cases might rise to 1,000 per day by July

The number of COVID-19 cases might increase to 1,000 per day in the National Capital Region (NCR) by the end of June or first week of July, the OCTA Research said on Tuesday, June 21.

OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David said in the Laging Handa briefing that the possible uptick of COVID-19 cases may not cause a high increase in hospital utilization but the public should not be complacent.

“Iyong average daily attack rate (ADAR) sa Metro Manila, nasa mga 1.5 na – actually, mga 1.6 so tumataas siya. Posible ngang tumaas siya to seven so ibig sabihin, kapag umabot tayo ng mga more or less mga 1,000 cases per day sa Metro Manila ay nasa 7 na tayo ng attack rate,” he said.

“At that rate or at that point, medyo mataas na iyong level of cases. Posible itong mangyari by end of June or first week of July base sa mga projections natin,” he added.

David said they are “not projecting an increase in hospital utilization.” “Tataas ito pero hindi ganon kataas. So we should still be okay, pero ayun nga, at that level, siyempre kailangan talaga iyong pag-iingat ng mga kababayan natin.”

Aside from NCR, COVID-19 cases in Benguet, Western Visayas, Calabarzon, and Western Visayas are also increasing, particularly in Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal.

“Iyong mahalaga is raising awareness na tumataas iyong cases, hindi pa tapos iyong pandemic, nandiyan pa rin ang virus, kailangan pa rin natin ng patuloy na pag-iingat,” David said. -ag
