OCTA: Vaccinate 50% of population in NCR, 6 other high-risk areas to contain COVID-19

To contain the virus, at least 50% of the population in Metro Manila and six other areas at high risk for COVID-19 should be vaccinated, the OCTA Research group said on Monday (May 24).

In a report, the group said the local government units (LGUs) with the highest number of average daily attack rate (ADAR) as of May 24 are National Capital Region (NCR), Tuguegarao City, City of Santiago in Isabela, Baguio City, Cainta, Cebu City and Imus City.

The team of experts suggested to allocate 40% to 45% of vaccines to NCR, 15 to 20% allocated to CALABARZON, 10% allocated to Central Luzon, 6% to Central Visayas and 4% to Western Visayas, with 20% going to the rest of the country.

This will cost 15.96 million doses to vaccinate a total of 7.98 million people.

OCTA added that vaccinating 40% of the population in moderate-high risk LGUs will require 7.3 million doses, while for the moderate risk LGUs, vaccinating 30% of the population will require 3.08 million doses.

“A rollout of 30 to 35 million vaccines before the end of 2021, allocated by risk level, will help the country achieve containment,” said OCTA. –rir
