Ombudsman post application still ‘long shot’: Bello

CITY OF ILAGAN — Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said his quest for a possible stint as Ombudsman is still a “long shot” as all the applicants are qualified and have proven track record.

“It is still long shot and I have a slim chance to get the post,” Bello III told the Philippine News Agency in an interview on Wednesday as he debunked claims anew that he has pending administrative cases at the Ombudsman.

“To prove them wrong, I showed a certification that I do not have a pending case before the Ombudsman,” he said.

According to Bello, he opted to apply for the Ombudsman post despite being pushed seven times by President Rodrigo Duterte to run for senator under the PDP-Laban.

He said his track record and experience working under four Presidents in various capacities would indicate that he is “much qualified to do the job.”

The Isabela-based secretary had previous stints as Justice secretary, solicitor general, Cabinet secretary and Philippine Reclamation Authority head, among other top government posts. (PNA)
