BALER, Aurora — The onslaught of Typhoon Ompong in this province has caused PHP137.7 million worth of damage to infrastructures and agriculture, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said Monday.
PDRRMO head Amado Elson A. Egargue, in his latest report to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) headed by acting Governor Rommel Rico T. Angara, said the extent of damage to agricultural crops and livestocks was estimated at PHP 130,308,186 in the entire province while damage in infrastructures was placed at PHP7,400,000.
Casiguran, which is one of the northern towns placed under tropical cyclone warning signal no. 3, was hard-hit with an initial estimated damage to agriculture worth PHP42,658,610.
The town of San Luis also suffered the fury of Typhoon Ompong with an estimated agricultural loss amounting to PHP36,575,256.
Damage to agricultural crops in Maria Aurora town, on the other hand, was placed at PHP27,540,000.
The agriculture sector in Dilasag town was likewise hit by the typhoon with estimated losses to crops and livestocks, pegged at PHP13,887,000 and PHP58,850, respectively for a total of PHP13,945,850.
Dingalan town’s agriculture was also hit by ‘Ompong’ with an estimated loss at PHP6,216,970.
The capital town of Baler was also hard-hit by the typhoon, where a 100-meter seawall in Purok 3, Barangay Sabang was destroyed with an estimated damage placed at PHP7,400,00 while in agricultural was at PHP3,371,500.
“No damages reported so far in the towns of Dipaculao and Dinalungan. We are still waiting for their reports ,” Egargue said.
He also reported that all evacuees have already returned to their homes safety.
“Our evacuation centers in the whole province are now closed. Evacuees were already sent homes. he added.
Typhoon Ompong has affected some 7,475 families or 27,763 individuals in the whole province.
Out of the said figures, some 4,674 families or 17,738 individuals stayed in various evacuation centers while 2,801 families or 10,025 individuals are outside evacuation camps.
He also noted that electric power was restored in the whole province except in the coastal barangays of San Luis town.
He added that all major roads in the province are passable as advised by the Department of Public Works and Highways. (Jason De Asis/PNA)
