Only 6 firecracker injuries reported in Region 12

COTABATO CITY – The Department of Health in Region 12 (Soccsksargen) on Tuesday reported that only six persons were injured by firecrackers in its area of jurisdiction throughout the holiday season.

Jenny Ventura Panizales, DOH-12 focal person on the campaign against the use of firecrackers, said the count for the number of fireworks-related injuries (FWRIs) started since December 21.

“This is also to note that no one was injured during the New Year’s Eve revelry across the region,” she told the Philippine News Agency in an interview.

The current FWRIs figure is much lower compared to the same period last year, with 42 injuries.

“This is an indication (that) our campaign against the use of firecrackers and pyrotechnics at home and surroundings was effective and becoming popular,” Panizales said.

The DOH-12 has lauded the local government units and other stakeholders for their contribution in the overall desire of having “zero” injuries during the revelry.

Panizales also said that no victim of stray bullets was reported to government and private hospitals.

“We are very glad about this achievement, it’s the achievement of all residents of Region 12,” she added.
