With Super Typhoon Uwan expected to bring major impacts in Luzon and some parts of Visayas based on the findings of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and PAGASA’s weather forecasts, the Office of the President issued an announcement on suspension of work in government offices and classes in all levels on Sunday.

The Memorandum Circular declared the suspension of work in government offices in the National Capital Region (NCR), Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and Regions I (Ilocos), II (Cagayan Valley), III (Central Luzon), IV-A (Calabarzon), IV-B (Mimaropa), V (Bicol), and VIII (Eastern Visayas) on Monday.

Classes at all levels in the aforementioned regions, including Region VI (Western Visayas), VII (Central Visayas), and the Negros Island Region, are likewise suspended on Monday and Tuesday (Nov. 11).

The Circular read, “Agencies responsible for basic, vital, and health services, preparedness and response duties must continue to remain operational.”

Government agencies responsible for the aforementioned services are, moreover, encouraged to implement alternate work arrangements to ensure continuity of services to the public.

Local chief executives may also declare localized cancellation or suspension of classes and/or work in government offices in other places not covered by the Circular.

Suspension of work in private companies and offices, however, is left to the discretion of their respective heads. (with report from Kenneth Paciente | PTV News)
