Optional face mask order in Cebu now a law

The Cebu Provincial Board passed an ordinance on Tuesday, June 14, supporting Governor Gwendolyn Garcia’s executive order on optional wearing of face masks outdoors.

Included in the law are “all individuals, residents, and non-residents within the jurisdiction of the Province of Cebu.”

With the passage of the law, individuals who would refuse to wear their face masks in public places will no longer be arrested.

The ordinance only requires people to wear face masks in enclosed and air conditioned areas, and other individuals who have symptoms of COVID-19 like cough and fever.

According to Board Member John Ismael Borgonia the said law was passed to oppose the mandate of the Department of Interior and Local Government on mandating the public to wear face masks in outdoor settings.

Eleven out of the 18 provincial board members attended the special session to vote for the said ordinance. –Report from John Aroa/KC- gb
