DUMAGUETE CITY — Business establishments in Dumaguete City will be obliged to provide the police with recordings of their respective CCTV cameras in case crimes are committed inside their premises and perimeters.
Councilor Jose Victor Imbo said Tuesday he has proposed the passage of an upgraded version of the city’s CCTV ordinance to help make crime solution more efficient, given the difficulty for law enforcers to take hold of vital video footage needed in resolving crimes.
Imbo noted that after crimes are committed, the chief of police simply writes establishments within the vicinity to submit CCTV footages.
There are even instances where CCTV cameras are merely set up for compliance but are not really working, he added.
Imbo also suggested making the video footage public via social media to alert the community on the identity of the suspects.
Also required is the establishment of high-resolution CCTV cameras in the entry and exit areas of establishments.
Meanwhile, deliberations of the city council continue on a proposed ordinance requiring hotels and malls to have a medical team on standby to respond to emergency cases.
Imbo made the proposal after witnessing a medical emergency in one of the hotels in the city, where none of the staff knew how to react while help was still on its way.
The councilor, who is a dentist by profession, clarified that the concerned hotel does not have to hire additional personnel, but just train the existing staff on handling emergency situations.
