P3.7-M worth of shabu seized in Bacolod

BACOLOD CITY — An estimated PHP3.7 million worth of “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride) were seized by operatives of the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) in a buy-bust operation at Barangay 33 here Tuesday night.

A report released by the Bacolod City Police Office on Wednesday showed the operation led to the arrest of Jeffrey Virgel, 35, a resident of Purok Cheresa, Barangay 27 though billeted at RN2 Building on Rosario Street when he was arrested around 10 p.m.
CDEU operatives headed by Supt. Nasruddin Tayuan and assistant team leader Insp. Adrian James Albaytar found in Virgel’s possesion several sachets of suspected shabu.

The inventory of the seized drugs was witnessed by Barangay 33 village chief Karen Pineda and councilman John Malayang.

The Tuesday night haul was among the largest seized by the Bacolod police drug unit this year.

On February 13, the CDEU seized PHP1.2 million worth of “shabu” during a buy-bust against three suspects at Greensville 2 Subdivision, Barangay Villamonte while on February 28, the unit arrested a high-value target and her brother who yielded PHP600,000 worth of “shabu” in an anti-drug operation at Barangay 28.

In March this year, the Bacolod police seized 50.697 grams of shabu with an estimated street value of PHP760,455.
