MANILA — Law enforcers seized close to one kilogram of suspected shabu worth PHP5 million during a raid at a house in Muntinlupa City early Monday.
In a press conference, Chief Supt. Albert Ignatius Ferro, the chief of the Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG), presented the seized items found during the implementation of a search warrant issued by the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court Branch 204 against Yang Ang Quan aka Li Hong Peng of Room 323 Marimba Bldg, Rhapsody Residences, Barangay Buli, East Service Road, Muntinlupa City.
Joint operatives of the PNP-DEG, Muntinlupa PNP and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-National Capital Region seized four transparent plastic packs containing white crystalline substance believed to be shabu and with a combined weight of more or less one kilogram, mobile phones and assorted documents. The subject of the search warrant was not around during the implemantation of the said writ.
The operation was a follow up to a similar drug bust in Alabang and Makati last March 23, where four suspects – including a Chinese national – yielded illegal drugs worth PHP50 million.
Ferro said Peng is married to a Filipina and was arrested in a drug bust on April 29, 2012.
“We are trying to conduct further investigation of how the judge allowed him to post bail,” said Ferro.
Ferro said they are still investigating the connection between Peng’s drug syndicate group and the three laboratories discovered two weeks ago in Batangas, Malabon and Marikina that were reportedly ran by Chinese nationals.
The confiscated pieces of evidence will be brought to PNP-DEG for proper documention and will be turned over to PDEA for laboratory examination.
PNP Chief Oscar Albayalde, meanwhile, said the PNP will continue to track down Peng’s operations.
“As I have said the war on drugs and other forms of criminality will remain relentless. No less than the President has promised this to the Filipino people. And as their servants and protectors, we commit to help the President fulfill this promise. As we all know, Project Double Barrel under the previous leadership started strong, and we must finish strong as well. We will continue to study and assess what we have done so far and what we are doing now, and implement reforms along the way as necessary,” he said. (Benjamin Pulta/PNA)
