P7.8-M worth of marijuana seized in Kalinga after citizen’s tip

A total of P7.8-million worth of marijuana bricks were seized after authorities obtained information that the illegal drugs were to be transported from Kalinga to Cagayan.

Various police units set up a checkpoint in Rizal, Kalinga when they received information from a concerned citizen about the alleged planned transportation of marijuana.

The tipster also informed them that three marijuana sacks were hidden under a concrete sewer in Sitio Anonang, Barangay Road, Liwan West.

Upon verification, law enforcers discovered three abandoned sacks containing 53 pieces of dried marijuana leaves and stalks in brick form, as well as 24 pieces of marijuana leaves and stalks in tubular form, all weighing 65.3 kilograms and worth P7,836,000.

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Police Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said the investigation into the matter is still ongoing: “Inaalam natin kung saan galing at kung kanino dadalhin ang marijuana.”

He directed police units to conduct checkpoint operations, especially in the Cordillera region, to prevent the transportation of illegal drugs and to arrest drug couriers.

“Hinihikayat natin ang publiko na patuloy na makipagtulungan sa pulisya para tuluyang masawata ang ilegal na droga,” he added.  (PNP-PIO) – jlo
