Padada, Davao del Sur sustains state of calamity status

Following the destructive 6.9 magnitude earthquake that hit Davao del Sur in the afternoon of Sunday, December 15, 2019, the local government unit of Padada maintains the state of calamity status in the entire municipality, that began in October 2019.

Using the life detector of the Central 911, and life and motion detector of the Bureau of Fire Protection, signs of life were seen in the fallen South Green Marketing building in Padada, where authorities believe that some six people are still trapped there. This prompted the rescuers to revert their undertaking to search, rescue, and retrieval operations.

The two corpses that were pulled out from the same building were identified by their relatives. They were Elsa Ababon, 57 years old and Evangeline Artiaga, 67 years old. The first cadaver was recovered after 6:00 A.M. today, December 16, 2019 and the second after two hours. Presently, the rescuers are down to retrieving another lifeless body from the destroyed edifice. These are the three of the four fatalities from the quake, where the fourth is that of a six-year-old girl in Barangay Asinan, Municipality of Matanao.

Six individuals saved by the rescuers incurred injuries and are now attended to by medical staffers.

The local government unit of Padada determines the cost of loss from the shake through the captains of the 17 barangays it encompasses.

The situational report of the Davao del Sur Police Provincial Office indicates that there were two deads, one from Hagonoy and the other from Matanao.

Aftershocks and raindrops surround Padada in the present.
