It’s that time of year again when Filipinos have to deal with sweltering heat in the next few months, as summer continues to remain in full swing across the country.

This, as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) released a heat index alert that outlines expected peak temperatures in places across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Dagupan City, Pangasinan and Aparri, Cagayan are set to experience temperatures as high as 44°C on Monday, with the following areas likewise expected to feel searing hot weather:

  • Sinait, Ilocos Sur (42°C)
  • Laoag City, Ilocos Norte (42°C)
  • MMSU, Batac, Ilocos Norte (43°C)
  • Bacnotan, La Union (42°C)
  • Baler, Aurora (42°C)
  • Casiguran, Aurora (42°C)
  • San Ildefonso, Bulacan (42°C)
  • Tarlac Agricultural University, Camiling (42°C)
  • Sangley Point, Cavite City, Cavite (42°C)
  • San Jose, Occidental Mindoro (43°C)
  • Cuyo, Palawan (42°C)
  • Maasin, Southern Leyte (42°C)
  • Davao City, Davao del Sur (42°C)

Prolonged exposure to the sweltering heat in various places across the Philippines significantly increases the risk of dehydration, fatigue, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.

As such, the Department of Health (DOH) reminds the public to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, refrain from going outdoors between 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. whenever possible, and always bring an umbrella and apply sunscreen to protect themselves from the sun.

Meanwhile, no low pressure areas are being monitored for possible tropical cyclone formation, the state weather bureau said.
