The severe tropical storm (STS) outside the Philippine area of responsibility has no direct effect on the country and is not expected to enhance the southwest monsoon or habagat, the state weather bureau said Thursday, Aug. 10.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said STS “Lan” was 2,370 kilometers east northeast of extreme northern Luzon as of 3:00 a.m.
“Malayo sa ating kalupaan, walang direktang epekto… Ang ating nararanasang habagat sa ngayon ay hindi naman palalakasin nitong si STS ‘Lan’,” PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said.
Meanwhile, habagat will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, Soccsksargen, Occidental Mindoro, northern portion of Palawan, and Lanao del Norte.
Habagat or localized thunderstorms may also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.
“Asahan na ang mga pag-ulan sa malaking bahagi ng Visayas and Mindanao ngayong araw dahil sa habagat or southwest monsoon, lalo na sa western sections,” Estareja said.
“Asahan naman ang mainit at maalinsangang panahon lalo na rito sa may northern and Central Luzon,” he added.
