Pagudpud town to build PHP200-M sewage treatment plant

By Leilanie Adriano (PNA)

LAOAG CITY — The municipal government of Pagudpud is eyeing to build a PHP200-million sewerage treatment facility to improve health and sanitation in this major tourist destination in northern Luzon.

Town mayor Marlon Sales confirmed this in an interview on Thursday afternoon as he reported they are looking for a third party as partner in the project.

At the moment, talks are underway with a third-party investor to set up the sewerage plant in the mountainous part of Pagudpud.

With an existing water district in Pagudpud, Sales said they have initiated the project to assist in the sustainable development plan of the municipality.

Sales however admitted that several farmers groups in Pagudpud are apprehensive of the proposed project as it may affect the water intake that goes to their farmlands.

He then explained to farmers there is nothing to worry about as water supply in Pagudpud is abundant.

“During the wet season, we have 80 million liters of water per day while during the dry season, we have 40 million liters per day,” he said.

Pending the establishment of the sewerage plant, Sales said the municipality is bent on improving its irrigation system first and for the water system to reach the town’s developing areas in the villages of Caunayan, Balaoi, Caparispisan, Saud, Burayoc, parts of Poblacion and Tarrag.
