MANILA — Malacañang has directed the entire government to extend support in connection with the preparation for the country’s hosting of the 30th Southeast Asian Games from November 30 to December 1 this year.
Under Memorandum Circular No. 56, all government agencies and instrumentalities, including government-owned or -controlled corporations and local government units, are encouraged to extend their support to the Philippine Sea Games Organizational Committee Foundation, Inc. in the preparation, organization, and holding of the 30th SEA Games.
“All departments, bureaus, agencies, and instrumentalities of government, including government-owned or controlled corporations, and state universities and colleges, are hereby directed to render full support and assistance in the preparatory activities for the Philippines’ hosting of the 30th SEA Games,” the memorandum reads.
“Local government units, non-government organizations, the private business sector, educational institutions, and the general public are hereby encouraged to lend their cooperation and support to ensure the successful conduct of the 30th SEA Games,” it added.
It also asked the Philippine Sports Commission, the Philippine Olympic Committee and all the concerned national sports associations (NSAs) to coordinate with and support each other for the effective preparation and successful participation of the Philippine delegates in the biennial sports meet and all preparatory and relevant competitions.
The memorandum recognized the importance of support from all sectors for the successful hosting of the SEA Games.
“The successful organization and hosting of the 30th SEA Games requires the involvement, coordination, and support of concerned government agencies, the different national sport associations, and the private sector,” the memorandum added.
The memorandum, signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea on January 25, took effect immediately.
The SEA Games is a biennial multi-sport event involving participants from 11 countries – Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Timor Leste, Thailand, Vietnam and host the Philippines.
This is the fourth time the SEA Games will be held in the Philippines, which hosted it in 1981, 1991, and 2005.
The New Clark City Sports Complex in Tarlac, along with other sports facilities in Subic, Manila and Tagaytay, will serve as venues of the 2019 SEA Games.
