Palace extends sympathies to victims of Florida shooting

MANILA — Malacanang on Thursday expressed condolences to the families and victims of the mass shooting incident in Florida that left 17 people dead.

“We condole with the families and friends of the victims,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said during the Palace media briefing.

Before proceeding with the press briefing, Roque asked members of the Malacanang Press Corps to offer a moment of silence for five seconds.

“I’d like to reiterate that violence has no place in society,” he said.

According to reports, a gunman went on a shooting rampage inside the educational facility of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, killing 17 people and injuring 16 others.

The suspect, identified as Nikolas Cruz, 19, was a former student of the school who was reportedly expelled for “disciplinary reasons”.

The suspect is now in police custody.
