Palace mourns passing of Bocaue Mayor

Malacañang has extended its condolences to the bereaved family of Bocaue, Bulacan Mayor Joni Villanueva-Tugna who is the daughter of CIBAC Partylist Rep. Bro. Eddie Villanueva and sister of Sen. Joel Villanueva.

Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo said the mayor is a great public servant and a family-oriented individual. He added he is aware how painful the situation is for the family because they just lost their mother last March.

“Nakikiramay po tayo kay Bro. Eddie Villanueva at Sen. Joel Villanueva at sa buong pamilya. At ipagdarasal po natin na magkaroon ng eternal repose ang kaluluwa ni Mayor Joni (We send our sympathies with Bro. Eddie Villanueva and Sen. Joel and the whole family. And we pray for the eternal repose of the soul of Mayor Joni),” Panelo condoled.

Senator Villanueva disclosed Mayor Joni “got this vasculitis this January” which compromised her immune system. “Unfortunately during lockdown she felt she needed to go out and personally check everything. Infection crept in and caused her life. She literally died because of her passion to serve her people, without fanfare.” – Report from Mela Lesmoras
