Malacañang on Thursday, October 25, remains optimistic that actress Nora Aunor will be proclaimed National Artist, following her delisting in this year’s awarding ceremony.
In a Palace press briefing, Chief Presidential Legal Counsel and Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo noted that the actress is still young and will surely have her moment ‘in God’s perfect time.’
“Her non-inclusion does not diminish her iconic stature as the country’s Superstar,” Secretary Panelo stressed.
The Palace official added that Aunor’s non-inclusion does not reduce her massive influence and significant contribution to the local film, theater, television and music industries.
“The artistical and musical legend that is Nora Aunor may not have passed the critical eyes of a select juror and the awarding authority to be bestowed the National Artist award but her enrapturing film artistry and musicality and mass acceptance surpass any technical recognition given by any entity or authority,” Panelo underscored.
The Palace official called Aunor the crowned people’s artist and acknowledged that her phenomenal rise left many “mesmerized.”
The actress earlier said that the respect she gets from her fellow artists is already merit of an award.
Sec. Panelo, meanwhile, announced that the entering of StreamTech Systems Technologies, Inc. in the local telco business is a welcome development, saying a third company will compete with the two current companies and will eventually benefit the Filipino tech users.
“What to my mind is important is that we have a third company that will compete with two others and that will bring some benefits to us [and] those using this technology,” Panelo said.
On the possible conflict of interest with the Villars whose family members occupy positions in the government, the President’s chief legal counsel said that the franchise grant has been granted by Congress adding that “members of Congress have considered the provision of the Constitution as well as the ownership of that corporation.”
AFP Chief reminds public to be ‘vigilant’ with new terrorism tactics
In the same press briefing, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Carlito Galvez, Jr. reminded everyone to be vigilant in lieu of the events that transpired in the United States where former high-ranking officials of the government received explosive devices, sent in packages, allegedly by extremist groups.
“Yung tinatawag nating letter bomb, based on my studies on terrorism, has been there maybe 10 years ago pa. Ginagamit na nila ‘yan,” Galvez said.
