Palace says new facilities in WPS must be investigated

The reported construction of new facilities by China in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) while everyone is focused on the COVID-19 pandemic has reached Malacaῆang.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said they will have to wait for the reports of concerned agencies on the matter before making a statement.

“Wala pa kaming info diyan. Kailangan imbestigahan muna natin bago tayo magbigay ng response (We do not have info on the matter. It must be investigated first before giving a response),” Panelo said.

The story came from a Chinese news agency report which mentioned new research stations allegedly launched recently by China in the disputed territory. – Report from Mela Lesmoras
