Palace urges new lawyers to join gov’t

MANILA — Malacañang on Thursday congratulated law graduates who passed the 2017 bar exams and urged them to pursue a career in government and help create reforms for the nation.

“We’d like to congratulate in advance and wish everyone, all the barristers good luck on this year’s bar exam,” Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, a lawyer himself, said in a Palace briefing.

“We hope that many of our country’s new lawyers would pursue a career in government so that they may take part in helping us with our shared goal of creating genuine reforms for the nation,” he added.

Roque pointed out that the bar passers are “most welcome” under the Duterte administration.

The Supreme Court (SC) said 1,724 out of 6,748 examinees passed the 2017 bar exam, posting passing rate of 25.5 percent.

SC Associate Justice Lucas Bersamin, 2017 bar chair, announced the results past Thursday noon at the SC quadrangle in Padre Faura, Manila.

Mark John Simondo from the University of St. La Salle Bacolod topped the exam with a score of 91.05 percent. (PNA)
