Palace: Vax card fakers may face jail time

Malacaῆang on Tuesday (July 6) said individuals planning to use fake vaccination cards to bypass travel guidelines can get imprisoned.

This warning followed the government’s decision to ease travel restrictions on the interzonal travel of fully-vaccinated persons, where they only need to present complete COVID-19 vaccination proof instead of a negative swab result.

“Kapag kayo po’y nameke ng vaccination card, that’s falsification of a public document, medyo mataas po ang kulong diyan,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque warned during his Tuesday briefing.

“Mataas po, mahaba ang kulong diyan, huwag naman po kayong magpakalaboso,” he added.

Roque said several local government units (LGUs) have already raised the concern of possible bogus vaccination cards. He said this is something the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) will discuss.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has already alerted all its offices and units to be vigilant on travelers with fake documents.

“Kung ang resulta ng RT-PCR test ay pinepeke, hindi malayong may masasamang loob na gumamit din ng pekeng vaccination documents. Hindi natin ito dapat hayaang mangyari,” PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Elazar said.

During the July 6 Laging Handa Public Briefing, Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto said their vaccination cards are not easy to fake since these are integrated with its QR code-based contact tracing system. – (PTV News)/AG-rir
