Palawan plebiscite set on March 13, campaign period starts Feb. 11


The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) laid out its preparation for the Palawan plebiscite on March 13.

The plebiscite will give an opportunity for the voters to choose whether or not they are in favor of dividing the province into three, namely, Palawan Del Norte, Palawan Oriental, and Palawan Del Sur in accordance with RA 112-59 that was signed by President Rodrigo R. Duterte in 2019.

According to COMELEC Deputy Executive Director for Operations Teopisto Elnas Jr., the information campaign period as well as the gun ban in the whole province begins on Thursday, February 11 and will last until March 20.

On the day of the poll, voting will run from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. It will be conducted in 23 participating municipalities of Palawan except Puerto Princesa City. Minimum health protocols will be strictly implemented in the course of the event. – Report from Kenneth Paciente
