Palay, yellow corn farm gate prices rise

MANILA — The average farm gate prices of palay and corn have increased from last year, latest Philippine Statistics Authority data showed.

Palay price as of the fourth week of July was PHP21.81 per kilogram, which was 11.79 percent higher than the year-ago figure of PHP19.51 per kilogram.

Yellow corn, meanwhile, was 29.04 percent costlier at PHP14.44 per kilogram than its price of PHP11.19 per kilogram in the previous year.

By weekly comparison, the average farm gate prices of palay and yellow corn also increased in the fourth week of July 2018 from the previous week’s levels.

Palay price per kilogram rose by 1.02 percent at PHP21.81 from PHP21.59, PSA data said.

“The average farm gate price of yellow corn grain at PHP14.44 per kg during the week rose by 0.70 percent from previous week’s level,” the PSA data added.

On the other hand, white corn grain’s average price dipped by 1.29 percent in the fourth week of July 2018 to PHP15.33 per kilogram from the previous week’s level. (Catherine Teves/PNA)
