Military takeover looms on water provision in Metro Manila

President Rodrigo Duterte forewarned the Maynilad Water Services Inc. and Manila Water Company, Inc. of possible military takeover of the water supply in Metro Manila in the event of their exit from the undertaking. He also manifested the possibility of jailing individuals whom put Filipinos in a disadvantageous footing.

President Spokesperson Salvador Panelo earlier stated that the Malacañan was perturbed by the water providers’ threat of potential 100% water price hike following the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System’s cancellation of the contracts with them.

The spokesperson also publicized the firms’ individual letters to the President written on Tuesday, December 10, 2019. The Manila Water, in its message, promised not to do any price increase. The Maynilad, for its part, swore to work with the state to ensure affordable service to the plebs.

With respect to solving the persisting water provision rows, Panelo mentioned that the Chief Executive considers all possible, legal moves to settle the issues.
