PATAFA, Obiena reconcile after successful PSC mediation

By John Mark Pineda

The Philippine Athletics and Track and Field Association (PATAFA) and 2019 Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Ernest John “EJ” Obiena resolved the matter on the participation of Obiena in the upcoming Southeast Asian Games and the World Outdoor Athletics.

The successful proceedings were considered as the first-ever sports mediation, in which the Philippines Sports Commision (PSC) assisted both sides to make a clear discussion on the issues.

Moreover, the mediation led by PSC Chairperson William Ramirez, who was also the sole mediator for the process of the issue, conveyed his happiness for the success of the agreed settlement.

The guidance of Assistant Solicitor General Bernard Hernandez and Executive Director Atty. Arleo Magtibay of Philippine Dispute Resolution Center, Inc helped the PSC mediation team to settle the important issue between the two parties.

The mediation lasted five sessions. They also met and conversed in a private virtual room with a new journey for their partnership in sight. -ngs
