Patuloy na paglipana ng misdeclared imported plant products, ikinababahala ng House tax chief

Balak pulungin muli ni Ways and Means Committee Chair Joey Salceda ang Bureau of Plant Industry oras na magbalik-session ang Kongreso sa Enero.

Kasunod ito ng hinaing ng Benguet Farmers Marketing Cooperative sa pagpasok ng strawberries mula South Korea.

Nababahala ang kinatawan na nagpapatuloy pa rin ang malawakang pagpasok sa bansa at sa local market ng imported at misdeclared plant products tulad ng gulay at prutas.

Matapos lamang aniya ang break ng Kamara ay agad nitong pahaharapin ulit sa komite ang BPI upang alamin kung naghigpit na ba ito sa inspection ng imported plant products.

Una na kasi inamin ng BPI na hindi nila na-iinspeksiyon lahat ng shipment na dahilan para mas maging talamak ang smuggling at misdeclaration.

Hindi aniya katanggap-tanggap ang paliwanag ng ahensya na ang pagdami ng South Korean strawberries sa bansa ay para punan ang demand ng Korean community.

Bukod dito, hindi rin kasama ang naturang prutas sa Korea-Philippine Trade Agreement sa ilalim ng General Agreement on Tariff Agreement-World Trade Organization. (RPU)-rir
