Payment of teachers who rendered services in the May 12 national and local elections has started, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced Wednesday.

“Yes, it (payment) has started. Honoraria should be given within 15 days [after the elections],” Comelec Spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said in a media briefing.

Laudiangco urged teachers who are done with their election duties to coordinate with the election officers (EOs) in the cities or municipalities where they served on May 12 for the release of their payments.

He noted that teachers tend to take a rest after serving in the elections as Electoral Board.

“What is happening is that teachers, who are tired, choose to go home and rest. Election officers are already looking for them so they can go and sign the payroll and receive their honoraria,” Laudiangco said.

“We are asking you to coordinate with the principals. So that we can give the honoraria to you, as soon as possible,” he added.

The payment ranges from P9,000 to P12,000, according to the Comelec.

“It became P12,000 for the Board chairperson. For poll clerks and third members, it was P11,000. It used to be P10,000 and P9,000. Department of Education supervisors became P11,000 from P9,000. Technical support staff used to be P7,000 and now it is P9,000,” Laudiangco said.

Nearly 300,000 teachers served in the recently concluded elections.
