A month after appointing former Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla as the new Ombudsman, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. administered the oath of office to Fredderick Vida as the new Justice Secretary on Monday.
Prior to assuming his post as DOJ’s top official, Vida rose through the ranks of the agency—being appointed as an assistant secretary in January 2023, and eventually promoted as undersecretary in October of the same year.
Prior to his appointment to the DOJ, Vida served as assistant secretary in the Office of the Chief Presidential Legal Counsel.
He also had extensive experience as a lawyer and public servant.
After passing the 1996 Philippine Bar Exam, Vida began his legal career as an associate in a private law firm before establishing his own practice.
He also served as the vice mayor of Mendez-Nuñez, Cavite from 2007-2013, and as mayor of the same municipality from 2013-2022. During the last few years of his tenure as the local chief executive of Mendez, he also held the position of President of the Mayor’s League of Cavite from 2019-2022.
