After a press briefing announcement last week noting President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s acceptance of Secretary Eduardo Año’s decision to step down from his post, the President formally led the oath-taking of his successor late Monday.
During the ceremony, former Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief Eduardo Oban Jr. swore his oath as he officially took the reins from his predecessor to become the new National Security Adviser.
Oban’s appointment coincides with a period of significant geopolitical developments, in which nations wield their power and influence to shake up the world order and challenge rigid, outdated systems.
Under his leadership, he is expected to beef up the country’s internal and external security measures to preserve the nation’s integrity and sovereignty against all possible threats.
A graduate of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1979, the newly assigned NSA has nearly five decades of experience holding various government positions.
Oban was a former instructor pilot who also served as vice commander of the Philippine Air Force and as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Plans (J5).
He also became the 42nd AFP Chief in 2011, Clark Development Corporation (CDC) Chief in 2012, and the top official of the Visiting Forces Agreement Commission in 2014.
