President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is set to meet Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru at Malacañan Palace on April 29, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) confirmed Wednesday.

“[His Excellency] Ishiba Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, will undertake an Official Visit to the Philippines on 29-30 April 2025,” the PCO announced.

Marcos and Ishiba will discuss economic cooperation, political and defense engagements, as well as people-to-people exchanges during their meeting.

“Both leaders are also expected to exchange views on regional and global developments, and explore new pathways towards peace and stability under the ‘Strengthened Strategic Partnership’ between the two countries,” Malacañang said.

Marcos already met with Ishiba in Vientiane, Laos on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summits in October last year.

The exchange of high-level visits is a main feature of Philippines-Japan relations—with Marcos visiting Japan in February 2023, while then prime minister Kishida Fumio visited the Philippines in November of the same year.
