“Always act with integrity, uphold the rule of law, [and] defend our democracy. Today is not only a milestone, but a renewed pledge that your loyalty remains with the Constitution and the Filipino people.”

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. directed such marching orders to the newly-promoted generals and flag officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), in an oath-taking ceremony held at Malacañang this Wednesday.

Marcos reminded the Armed Forces of their due obligation towards serving the citizenry and the country in various facets such as humanitarian assistance during calamities, sustained training to better respond to external threats, and unwavering dedication towards upholding and protecting the country’s sovereignty and peace and order.

The President said in his speech, noting AFP’s various people-centric initiatives, “This year, the AFP has yet again demonstrated its reliability in humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations, from typhoons and volcanic eruptions to earthquakes here at home, even in Myanmar.”

He added, “You have shown our people and the world that the Filipino soldier is always ready to save lives, deliver relief, and rebuild communities.”

The Chief Executive meanwhile lauded the various joint and multinational exercises that AFP conducted with the country’s allied nations, such as Balikatan 40, Exercise ALON with Australia, Talisman Sabre, and engagements with partners across the Indo-Pacific.

Marcos touted such accomplishments as a reflection of the Armed Forces’ professionalism even in times of uncertainty. He concluded his remarks by directing men and women in uniform to maintain a strong presence in the air, on land, and at sea, as well as remain loyal to the Constitution.

President Marcos said, reassuring AFP of full government support, “I know the sacrifices you have made in serving this great nation. Rest assured, this Administration will do the best we can to provide you with the resources and benefits so that you can focus on your duty.
